Let's invent a story!

Here’s a little story we made up with our 4 year old daughter while playing together with our house puzzle toy.

‘Good morning cloud! Said the bright sun.

'What are you doing here?! To be quite frank, you aren’t invited today! I was supposed to shine bright all day long and the kids wished they could play in the garden! Didn’t you hear them'?

Oh, no! I must have been confused

Again...! Said sadly the carefree cloud. Let me check out my diary…Oh, i thought it was here but nope! I must have put the schedule somewhere… I mean, I must have lost it!

'It’s alright, it’s alright'… Said the sun. Please, just don’t start crying! 

You’ll wet everything! You’ll spoil children’s play!

But it was too late.

The little cloud cried and cried….

It took only  a couple of minutes before children’s shouts and giggles reached the sky! The flowers bloomed to thank the cloud, the seeds opened their tiny eyes after a long sleep, snails appeared all over the garden and the children… Oh, the children danced the first Autumn rain dance with their hands and hearts wide-open!

The little cloud laughed and laughed with them and poured tears of happiness. It rained and rained until a bright rainbow appeared! The cloud, the sun, the children and the rainbow danced in a circle around the house. The prudential sun understood that life, weather and play need no rigid plans, no strict rules! 

About imaginative play and it's importance

Imaginative play is a kind of open-ended, unstructured play with no rules, goals or result- except that kids learn a lot along the way. According to Sally Goddard Blythe, the importance of imagination in all areas of child development cannot be overstated. "This kind of play allows children to tap into their creativity and really run with it, without any boundaries, in a way that is very freeing".
